FAQ

WHAT IS YOUR AVAILABILITY?

  • Life is busy. Therapy offers the time and space for you to focus on you, rather than being one more thing to do. Kathryn’s private practice hours are Monday-Thursday, 9am - 3pm, and Friday afternoons. Outside of these hours, I work on a research project with UBCO, called The SOAR Project, so I am not available for private practice.

  • Katelyn’s private practice hours are Monday/Wednesday 9am-5pm & Tuesday/Thursday 3pm-7pm.

CAN I BOOK STANDING APPOINTMENTS WITH YOU?

  • You bet! Many clients choose this option. This sets you up with a regular time-slot on the same day every week making our time together a new part of your routine. If you have one in mind, we will do our best to accommodate.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

  • Our first session will consist of a bit of paperwork and a lot of getting to know each other. The getting to know each other part is really important! Successful outcomes for clients are directly linked to the relationship you have with your therapist – that experience of feeling like someone “gets you”.

  • We’ll work to define what you are experiencing, set some goals, and map out a realistic timeline to achieving them.

  • By the end of the session, you can expect to leave with a clear picture of our plan moving forward and the steps we’ll take to get there.

WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO IN THERAPY?

  • Showing up and sharing your unique experiences will build a foundation for powerful work together. If you’re not sure what you’re feeling or how to describe it, that’s okay, and in fact, perfectly normal!  We’ll be there to help you find your voice; we’ll go at your own pace.

HOW LONG WILL THERAPY TAKE?

  • Everyone’s circumstances are unique and the length of time you spend in therapy depends on your commitment to the process, as well as the factors that bring you to therapy in the first place. Issues like broken trust, history of trauma, or addiction may take longer to respectfully untangle. Some clients come in to learn specific tools for 6-8 sessions; others need longer to unpack their stuff and create meaningful, lasting change.

HOW DOES ONLINE THERAPY WORK?

  • When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, we didn't have much choice but to move online. Now, many clients choose to continue online for ease, convenience, and comfort.

  • We offer full online video and call services via Jane, a PIPEDA compliant platform (congruent with healthcare regulations) that is secure and protects your privacy.

  • You’ll receive a secure email link for each session that is user-friendly. No downloads. Just click and begin.

  • Jane works best on on a computer or laptop using Chrome or Opera. Android devices work best with Chrome.

WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?

  • As your therapists, we are committed to keeping your personal information private and confidential, including information that you disclose to me during therapy sessions. We’re bound by a professional code of ethics to keep your information confidential, with several exceptions. We’ll go over these together in our first session so that you feel confident and understand your rights as a client.

WHAT ARE YOUR FEES?

  • Individual Therapy: $135-140 + GST per hour

  • Relationships/Couples & Family Therapy: $160-165 + GST per hour

HOW DO I PAY FOR SESSIONS?

  • Great question! Currently, we accept electronic bank transfer (e-transfer). Here’s how it works:

    1. Book a session by connecting online via Jane's online platform or our contact page

    2. Prior to your session, send payment via e-transfer or credit card to payment@feltsensecounselling.com

    3. Have your session

    4. Receipt will be emailed to you before the end of the business day

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

  • Your session is reserved specifically for you. If you are not able to make your appointment, we require a 48-hour notice. If this is not possible, the regular session fee will be charged (extenuating circumstances will be considered).

DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?

  • Though we do not direct bill for extended benefit plans, many insurance plans provide mental health coverage. You’ll pay for the session up front and then submit the receipt with your therapist’s registration number for reimbursement.

I DON'T LIVE IN KELOWNA. CAN WE STILL WORK TOGETHER?

  • Absolutely! As Registered Clinical Counsellors with the BCACC (BC Association of Clinical Counsellors), we offer services in person in Kelowna, as well as online province-wide.

ARE YOU PET-FRIENDLY?

  • Not yet. However, research shows that pets are particularly attuned to humans' emotional and physical needs, making them a great source of support. I’d love to meet your animals if we connect online!
